It is with regret we announce the passing of friend and colleague, Mike Burnham. He was 72.
Mike worked for many years with Epsom’s bus division Quality Line in various roles. He spent his whole career in the bus industry, originally starting as a bus driver with London Country Buses (later Arriva), moving onto to the role of Inspector, a role in which he excelled. He was well known for ensuring bus services run as they should and his reputation went before him. In his spare time, he was a special constable. Mike joined Quality Line in the late nineties and soon put his experience to good use in ensuring the company’s moto, of “on time, every time” was adhered too. His “traffic circulars” designed to keep drivers informed, were always a delight, written with humour in a manner that always got the point across.
The company’s last Managing Director, Steve Whiteway, expressed his condolences. “I am so sorry to hear of Mike’s passing, he was a unique individual of the old school, who could always be relied upon to get whatever task he was given, done. I was delighted to secure Mike’s services for our fledgling team when we were building Quality Line and much of the companies success is down to his valued contribution. He worked with us right up until the end in 2017, part time but no less effective in the special projects he was given. We have not only lost a great character but also a veritable encyclopaedia of the bus industry and his passing is huge loss to our industry. We were very lucky to have Mike work with us and I will treasure the memories”.
Michael Burnham’s funeral service will be held on Monday 25th October at 11.00, St Marys Church, Ewell Village, then Leatherhead Crematorium at 12.30. The funeral service will be live streamed on Facebook.
