Since 1947, Epsom Coaches have laid a wreath on behalf of its staff on Remembrance Sunday to commemorate those who have given their lives in conflict. The tradition was started by the late Roy Richmond, son of the founder Roddy Richmond following Roy’s demobilisation from the armed forces. The wreath is placed at the War Memorial adjacent to Epsom Cemetery. A fitting place, as Roddy’s son Jack, was killed during the war and was laid to rest in the war graves section of the cemetery.
After Roy’s death in 2011, the tradition was carried on by Roy’s widow Nancy and more recently, Steve Whiteway, the last Managing Director of the firm. It is fitting that despite the demise of the company, the tradition continues on behalf of the staff and reflecting Epsom Coaches significant role in the community over 97 years.
